Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss!
Isn’t she just GORGEOUS? This is Erika Sawajiri (a famous Japanese actress/musician) who played the role of Ririko in Helter Skelter, the film adaptation of one of my favorite mangas (which I have written a recommendation about).

Through round after round of extensive plastic surgery and vigorous maintenance, Ririko has become the absolute manifestation of beauty, and becomes a wildly successful model, actress, and singer. However, soon, her body, unable to withstand the burdens of surgery, begins to crumble, and along with it so does her mind, as she plummets towards a frightening and inevitable end.
A story about a woman’s vanity, greed, hatred and despair.

Erika completely blew me away with her performance. She is an incredibly talented actress, and frankly, she scared me quite a bit during the film because I so often forgot that this was a movie and it wasn’t actually happening. When you watch her act you are completely convinced you’re witnessing the crumbling sanity of a woman who has been pushed past her limits physically, mentally, and emotionally.
As for the movie, I cannot recommend it enough! Even if you haven’t read the manga the film is an extremely faithful adaptation that does the story justice. The film itself is a psychological drama which reminded me of Perfect Blue or Black Swan (with an actress/model in the place of a idol singer/ballerina).
If you like movies like these, please check Helter Skelter out! It’s one of my new favorite Asian movies. And if you enjoy it, make sure to read the manga!
