Do you think Chibiusa ever realized how much her parents sacrificed for her on this particular birthday? Like, not only did they basically say “FUCK YOU KINGDOM WORK IT’S SMALL LADY’S BIRTHDAY” and come home early and throw her a surprise party, but it was Serenity’s birthday too.
She didn’t even celebrate her own birthday or mention it at all because her daughter was more important.
So the argument that Neo-Queen Serenity was a bad mother and didn’t love Small Lady is total bullshit.
That’s what I love so much. Serenity is a wonderful mother who obviously puts her daughter before everything else.

I love how, even though she’s the ruler of the entire world, NQS takes the time to spend time with her family. We see them eating out at a restaurant, frolicking in a flower patch, and taking walks in the rain. It’s clear that Serenity and Endymion take a lot of time out of their busy lives to lavish attention on their daughter and spend time together as a family, which is what makes it so sad when Wiseman convinces Chibiusa that her parents (in particular, her mother) don’t care about her and neglect her.
Yeah, but you guys were pretty much asshats about it, I must say. It’s a good lesson, but perhaps not one best taught at four by getting angry and slinging “I told you so”s. Just a suggestion. You know, for the next time your child gets infected with dark energy and is magically catapulted into uncomfortably sexy adulthood and tries to destroy the world.
Which is probably scheduled for some time next month, so be prepared this time.
The message of the R season is basically “don’t teach your kids life lessons at age four.” Oh, also “Don’t EVER throw surprise parties.”
I love this scene. It shows us that the Royal Family continues to do mundane things like going out to dinner together.
Also, notice how Serenity and Endymion are wearing different clothes? In my headcanon, they try to disguise themselves when going out to avoid any unwanted attention. Maybe the Crystal Tokyo equivalent of the paparazzi? :P
I spent a good few minutes just looking at the differences between the good and evil versions of these two images — interesting in and of themselves, but particularly fascinating if you consider that they’re how Chibi-Usa’s mind is distorting them.
Mercury looks the least changed, which probably fits in with her reserved personality. She looks cool, but calculating.
Venus goes through a pretty startling change, from an expression that is easily the friendliest of the group to someone who you think should be front and center in Mean Girls. Just such a playful look to her, like she’s about to rip you shreds and enjoy every second.
Mars looks downright CRUEL. Like if you take all the heart and tough love motivation out of every harsh thing she says, this is what you get. Someone who can cut you to the bone in seconds and laugh about it.
Jupiter is ferocious as shit. So much disdain; she might possibly tear your arms off, or maybe you’re so beneath her she can’t be bothered.
But her parents are the worst. Endymion CAN’T EVEN LOOK AT HER. She’s so contemptuous he’ll go out of his way to not see her when she’s standing in front of him.
Then there’s Serenity, and it’s such a slight change that it breaks my heart. I don’t know how or why Chibi-Usa has gottten this level of detachment from her mother, but even when she’s “good” NQS, she just has kind eyes, that’s it. When she goes evil, she glares. There is so little separation between the two. Even if NQS is the most affectionate mother in the entire world, it’s like all Chibi-Usa can get is distant fondness or MASSIVE DISAPPROVAL.
I don’t know what happened, but fix it. Fix it you two. Because I can’t.
