This is from the latest episode of Smile Precure!; of course, many similarities can be drawn between this item (called the Princess Candle) and elements of Sailor Moon!
At first glance this item bears a striking resemblance to the Kaleidomoon Scope, the purification item used by Super Sailor Moon in Sailor Moon SuperS.

But the similarities don’t stop there. Notice the Pegasus? While we’re on the topic of Sailor Moon SuperS, doesn’t the Pegasus (namely, Helios) play a very important role in the season?
Both Sailor Moon and Smile Precure were produced by Toei. As Sailor Moon fans are well aware of, this is Sailor Moon’s 20th anniversary. Aside from the Princess Candle, many other parallels to Sailor Moon can be drawn, aside from the typical Mahou Shoujo fare.
Three characters, Miyuki, Nao, and Reika bear extreme resemblances to Usagi, Mako, and Ami, respectively. For example, Miyuki loves food and is constantly upbeat and cheerful and is represented by the color pink; Nao is tomboyish (but has a feminine side), is good with children, has a strong sense of justice (think of Mako’s first appearance, when she is unsettled by Crane Game Joe using his powers to cheat), and has green as her main color; Reika is a serious, mature girl who is an excellent student and is often seen studying and her theme color is blue. The Cure controlling fire, Cure Sunny, actually shares the same last name as Rei, Hino.
