If you are looking for the most heart-felt zombie short film, I recommend “Cargo”.

It’s about a man’s struggle to save his baby daughter in the middle of all this havoc. What he comes up with is both clever and upsetting.

WATCH CARGO

OKAY JUST WATCHED THIS, THE SOLUTION WAS AMAZING WATCH IT OHMYGOD WATCH IT

Wow, I’m so surprised to see a short film I’m actually familiar with on my dash!

Cargo’s a GREAT film and definitely deserves to be watched by everyone!

Set in Ireland, a family moves to a new city neighborhood, taking residence in a large, old house that is rumored to have a dodgy past. Their young daughter Katie is caught in a power outage while the parents are out to dinner, and her father insists that she go down to the basement to fix the fuse. When they’d first moved in, Katie had a panic attack in the basement, brought on by stories that the devil once appeared down there. But with her father’s help, she slowly descends the ten steps to the bottom, each step into darkness inducing more and more terror, building up the suspense in a most simple, yet THE most effective way.

My favorite short horror films

I actually have an entire list of short films that I’ve liked and recommended, but I decided to take it up a notch and write descriptions of my very favorite films so you can decide whether or not you’d like to watch them! These descriptions will just be basic summaries (Note: Some of these descriptions were written by me, others are official summaries), that way you won’t get spoiled. Be sure to let me know your favorites! :D

(Also, this list will probably be added onto as I find more short films)

Red Balloon

  • Director: Alexis Wajsbrot and Damien Mace
  • Year released: 2010
  • Running time: 13 minutes
  • Synopsis: A young female babysitter is chatting to her friend when the young girl she’s watching disturbs her. She hangs up the phone and goes upstairs to investigate. She finds her screaming and standing up on her bed but can’t find anything wrong. She calms the child down and goes back down stairs. This happens several times but things get more ominous and creepy as the babysitter has to investigate the supposedly safe little bedroom.
  • My thoughts: I love this short, it’s one of my all time favorites! I think it’s because it’s reminiscent of one of my favorite urban legends. However, even if you’re familiar with this urban legend, The Red Balloon still offers a twist that’ll ensure you won’t be able to guess exactly what happens.

Still Life

  • Director: Jon Knautz
  • Year released: 2005
  • Running time: 9 minutes
  • Synopsis: A surreal little film that a man (whom we see generously popping pills while driving) who arrives in a very strange town where there appears to be nothing but mannequins; mannequins who move every time he looks away from them. In the end (following some very disturbing events), we don’t know whether this was a drug-induced hallucination or if something more sinister was afoot.
  • My thoughts: This was actually one of the very first short horror films I saw and ended up paving the way to my obsession with them. As such, it has a special place in my heart!

Peekers (2008)

Directed by Mark Steensland

This is a short horror film that, despite being minimalistic, manages to create a disturbing atmosphere throughout. I definitely recommend watching it to get in the Halloween spirit!

Great short horror films

As many of my followers know, I am obsessed with all things horror. In particular, I’m passionate about short horror films. Getting a good story and some scares packed into just a few minutes is difficult but often rewarding. I’ve spent years combing through the internet trying to find the best films. So I decided to post my own personal list of films I’ve loved so others could enjoy them, too!

This list is constantly growing so I’ll be updating every now and then. These are all very professional and, if not super scary, are very entertaining. Of course, your mileage may vary. They’re all in chronological order, by the dates I discovered them. Enjoy!

NOTE: Movies I highly recommend are bolded.

Mama

WARNING: This short film is extremely scary. Watch at your own discretion.

This short film, Mama, made in 2008 by Andres Muschietti, is the basis of the newly released feature-length film of the same name. This remains one of my favorite horror shorts and the 2013 version is just as good! :D

Mockingbird, directed by Daywalt Horror.

Even if you aren’t a fan of the horror genre, this short MUST be checked out! It’s only a minute long! In that minute, an enormous amount of tension is built and the twist at the end is genuinely frightening. It’s a must see!!

Protip: Once you’re finished watching, look at the title again. :)
