scripts & extensions

this is a quick reference post i’m just throwing together - these are the scripts and extensions i use for Google Chrome to make my blogging experience on tumblr a little easier. posting them here so i can link folks back easily to any of these scripts.
- Missing E - probably the biggest one. allows you to reply to replies, auto wraps tags on posts, allows you to shuffle your queue, mass-delete asks, auto-tag, permanently enable photo replies, enable ask-replies without a question mark, reblog yourself, add shortcuts to buttons, reduce the size of fanmail font, and the list goes on and on. the single best customisation tool for tumblr.
- X-Kit - has a lot of the same features as Missing E, some of them with formatting you may prefer to the ME features, but if you don’t, you can easily switch off each individual feature if you only have X-Kit for one or two specific features. also has the handy “classic tags” option, so you can see your list of tracked tags in your sidebar instead of using the drop box. also has the “delta checker” and “mutual checker” options for those who track unfollowers/who’s following them back.
- Tumblr Savior - more commonly referred to as your “blacklist”. allows you to add specific tags, words, or phrases to a blacklist so posts about them don’t appear on your dashboard at all. massively helpful for anybody with triggers, or even if you just prefer not to see a specific subject on your dash. you can also adjust settings and finetune the features, for example, you can either get notified when a post has been hidden from you, or see nothing at all to reduce temptation to click.
- Tumblr Hate - kind of an awful name, but a really helpful little app. adds a spade icon to all posts so that if you ‘hate’ them by clicking on the spade, the post (and any reblogs of it on your dash) are hidden automatically - so if the same post that upsets you or annoys you keeps showing up, you can keep from seeing it. also adds a ‘hide’ option to notifications of your own posts being liked/reblogged, so if you have a popular post and you’re getting swamped by notes, you can hide them all with one click.
- AdBlock - the most popular Chrome extension there is, works on most websites not just tumblr. right-click and block any ads or pictures you don’t want to see.
- DoNotTrackMe - also not tumblr specific, but helpful for when you’re browsing around blogs looking for people to follow and don’t want your IP address tracked.
- AskMangler - allows you to add paragraphs in ask messages.
- TumTaster - allows you to download music from audio posts.
- Pause! Pause! Pause! - allows you to freeze all gifs until you click to start them. this can save a lot of bandwidth for those on a quota, help those with epilepsy, etc.
- Stylish - this app allows you to install specific tweaking scripts or skins for your tumblr. the ones i currently have installed on Stylish are:
- Hide Tumblr Radar - removes the radar & suggestions from your sidebar
- Missing E Warning Remover - hides tumblr’s popup for ME
- Get Rid of Follow Button - removes the follow button from posts
- Reply Fix - shifts the “block” text away from the speech bubble
- Smaller Notifications - makes notes on your dash their old size
there’s also Tumblr Themes & Skins that you can install with Stylish to dress up your dash and get away from the blue. i’m currently using Black Wood.
Super fucking helpful.
