What I love about he final sequences of Usagi in her ‘Angel Usagi’ form is that this is the final stage of Usagi’s character development. In the first episode, we are introduced to a lazy, clusmy crybaby who, other than her good looks, doesn’t have much going for her. She constantly gets bad grades and is preoccupied with the silliest things. However, this is the episode where Usagi’s maturity as a Sailor Senshi is evident. The friendships that she has made over the years has caused a radical change in her personality. Borrowing on Buddhist ideology, Usagi has reached enlightenment. She no longer depends on her seasonal weapons to save the day because her pure heart radiates its healing and pure light upon all. I honestly can’t think of a more fitting end to the series.

This. What’s so great is in every single other season finale is Usagi is either in her Sailor Moon, Super Sailor Moon, or Princess Serenity form, making her more powerful. In episode 200, it’s just Usagi. She doesn’t need the fancy outfits or super powers. It’s just her. And her light is great enough to cause Galaxia to reach out and take Usagi’s hand. Really nice ending.

Every single time there’s an UsagixSeiya fanfic/webcomic/whatever, they turn Mamoru into an inconsiderate jackass who doesn’t pay attention to Usagi.

What the fuck.

Just because you don’t like someone doesn’t mean you have to turn them into an A-class…

While I won’t argue the culture differences, it makes me wonder why the manga still set in Japan has him as such a different person than in the anime. Perhaps a change in the team handling the content since, from what I know, Naoko wrote Mamoru in the manga to reflect her ideal man and it shows. Every scene with he and Usagi in the manga is romantic and sweet. I read the manga after watching the anime and was shocked at how much more I liked him and them together.

I just don’t feel their chemistry as much in the anime. I did in the first season when they teased each other and I feel it, as I mentioned, during the big moments where it is required for the story…but usually Mamoru is just background filler. Their romance isn’t highlighted and he’s barely there unless to save the day. And unless it’s for a story, when they are together Usagi is always shown to act so immature in the relationship and he acts so aloof.

There just always seems to be a disconnect with them in the anime, that like…if it wasn’t for the sake of the future would they even be a couple?

I can’t argue with you there. Like I said, Naoko portrayed him much better in the manga. However, I really do feel like they genuinely love one another and would be together regardless of whether Crystal Tokyo existed or not. I think it really just depends on your feelings about certain scenes and what hints you pick up on.
